Welcome...

w1It's the Garlic Festival, it's in its 26th year, and it promises to be the best yet.

Firmly established among the top British food festivals, it is always a highlight of summer on the Isle of Wight and has been regularly singled out for praise in the national press and on TV.

Quite simply, it's foodie heaven, at its heart of course, is Britain’s biggest and best Garlic Marquee. STOP PRESS: The Garlic Farm just won GOLD at Hampton Court, for the SEVENTH successive year! So this year at the show we’ve extended the garlic marquee to be bigger than ever!

The largest under-cover festival on the Island (so we won't worry too much about the weather), its trademark is excellence in all things, not just GARLIC. Superlative acts, the very best of local produce, and high-quality arts and crafts. There's so much to see in our giant marquees, and our huge arena will feature a stunning programme of quality entertainment.

Particularly exciting is the return of The Vander's Wheel of Death, guaranteed to thrill and terrify in equal measure. There are clever animals. There's an escapologist. And when you've calmed down from all that, you can take a ride on our little railway. Toot toot!

Kids of all ages (that includes Mum and Dad, of course) will also love our children's entertainers, particularly our traditional Punch-and-Judy show. There’s Magic, circus skills, a climbing wall. And for those looking for a bit of adventure (but not too scary) there's the Island’s biggest annual fun fair.

Phew! Time for refreshment. Lots and lots of food stalls, a tea tent, of course, together with an ale tent and cider bar, making this the most festive of festivals. Look out for the cookery demo’s and tastings too!

And there are acts galore. A one-man band and a human jukebox (oh yes, we love variety) as well as top bands performing on our giant stage. They include Dodgy, whose 'Good Enough' remains a classic summer hit. Then there's Matchbox, the fabulous rockabilly '80s band, reprising their best and most popular numbers, along with Hello, whose 'Tell Him' is the ultimate in glam rock songs. And talking of glam, we have well respected soul star Linda Lewis, that Top of the Pops regular, whose great voice and catchy tunes never fail to wow both young and old alike.

w2And if you're looking to take up a new pursuit, why not try some football, or rugby? Our chaps from the Rugby Football Union will be on hand to show you how it's done. Or support the Scouts, who will be looking for new leaders to inspire the youngsters of this splendid organisation. And (don't be scared) we've even got Freemasons, telling us what really goes on when they all get together.

In fact, we have all sorts. A zoo, politicians (no, they're not part of the zoo), classic cars, tractors, lorries, archers, and a few wandering celebrities.

And you can do so much good while enjoying yourself. The festival has always prided itself on its charitable associations, and there will be lots of local charities and worthwhile causes to support.

Don't miss any of it. It's yummy, it's scrummy, and it's simply the bestest Garlic festival ever.
