What's On

These are just some of this years Garlic festival highlights – and with over 250 individual traders booked, this show will be the largest ever festival -celebrating the Island’s wonderful garlic and local produce. The variety of food on offer is the most varied ever offered. Over 60 charities and local good causes directly benefit from the weekend.

This year the Garlic Farm will recreate their Gold award winning Hampton Court flower show garden, in what will be our biggest ever garlic marquee.

produce
Other marquees will contain heaps of great local food too plus Arts and Crafts and up to 300 stalls, making this the largest under-cover Island event.

There are cookery demonstrations, tastings and giveaways too, including Sainsbury's with their Try Team. Make sure you arrive hungry – and thirsty! The show bar marquee has a dozen local beers and several ciders to tempt the connoisseur or the curious.

The Garlic show arena features; The Vander Brothers ‘Wheel of Death’ a terrifying structure the brothers walk in and on as it rotates at increasing speed. Also featuring are some talented animals and Tony and Amanda Brutus – a father and daughter strongman/woman act, sure to delight and impress. There’s an escapologist, some Tai Chi and plenty more to keep audiences of all ages entertained, delighted and even involved, should you wish. Wandering entertainers around the site watch out for our One-man-band, Jenny, the human jukebox and the STAR-WARS storm-troopers

In the Arena this year

Vander Brothers Space Wheel

The Vander Brothers celebrated their 25th Anniversary in 2009

A unique and highly prestigious act, having made its debut at the Glastonbury Festival.  Presenting the Double Wheel of Death, an 11 metre structure which rotates on a central axis with a cage at the end of each axial.  The Vander Brothers enter the cages and commence to rotate the wheel at ever increasing speed, walking then running on the inside, then on the outside of the cages.  A highly dangerous and spectacular act – guaranteed to leave the crowd with their hearts in their mouths throughout, especially when the artistes walk blindfold on the outside of the wheel.

The Vander’s  have appeared in  Moscow's Red Square, Tivoli Park in Scandinavia, ITV's "Don't Try This At Home" and a guest appearance at the Queen's Golden Jubilee.  In 2009 they performed in Bahrain at the Formula One Grand Prix, they previously performed at the Garlic festival in 2006 and were booked for 2010 but their wheel was stuck on a ship!

Tony and Amanda Brutus

Amanda is a current Guinness World Record Holder and the strongest girl in the world for her weight. Tony is a former strength champion and has over 50 TV appearances and films to his credit. Some of the amazing feats of strength they present include Amanda pulling, just with her teeth, a full size Roman Chariot fully laden with three members of the audience standing inside. Tearing telephone directories and lifting 200lbs with her teeth. She then lifts up the chariot with the heaviest member of the audience sitting inside. Many more feats are presented in this unusual act, including Tony testing his neck strength using four strong men pulling on a rope around his neck. Also a children's tug of war with prize

Over 65 charities and good causes will attend the Garlic festival, many using the event as a major fundraiser.  Please support as many as you can – they really appreciate it!

There’s so much to see and do at the Garlic Festival, it’s impossible to list – Our fun-fair features all the usual big rides, and new this year, Rock’ n Roll Dodgems. There’s a weensy railway, some cute animals and a fab but tiny, tea tent for when your legs really can’t take any more. This really is the Island’s something for everyone show – don’t miss it.
